As the only aquatics facility in Northumberland County, Virginia, the team at YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas needed a solution allowing year-round access to the outdoor pool without sacrificing the open-air experience members enjoy in the summer.

That’s when Adam Klutts, the president and CEO of YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas, found an ideal partner in DynaDome. “DynaDome provided an innovative solution with a high-quality retractable enclosure that delivered the flexibility, energy efficiency and member comfort we were looking for,” he said. “It was the ideal way to maximize our facility’s use in all seasons.”

Here, Klutts, details the Y’s affiliation with DynaDome, benefits members are experiencing, tips for industry leaders and more.

What are the benefits to your business as a result of this partnership?

Partnering with DynaDome will allow us to expand our operational capacity, increased program offerings and improved member satisfaction. We’ll move from a seasonal facility to year-round, allowing us to program swim lessons, water fitness, general member use and other programs throughout the year.

What are the benefits to your members as a result of this partnership?

Our members now enjoy a comfortable, weatherproof aquatics environment 12 months a year. Families, seniors and youth can continue participating in swim programs, regardless of the season. This consistency supports wellness goals, enhances safety through year-round swim instruction and strengthens member engagement.

Have you been pleasantly surprised by working with DynaDome in any way?

Absolutely. The professionalism of their team, quality of the engineering and the speed of the installation exceeded our expectations. The structure itself is even more attractive and functional than we imagined. We plan to partner with them again on future projects.

What else can you tell other rec center professionals about the benefits of working with DynaDome?

If you’re looking for a smart, sustainable way to expand your aquatics programming, DynaDome is a game-changer. It’s a reliable solution that brings immediate value — both to your operations and the communities you serve. Their team is responsive, knowledgeable and genuinely invested in your success.
