The Sussex County YMCA will soon open the county’s first dedicated pickleball center, scheduled to open in November 2024. The facility will cater to players of all skill levels, making it a welcoming space for both beginners and seasoned pros.

The new center will feature six courts, each equipped with the PickleRoll tournament-standard professional surface, providing players with an optimal experience. Designed with player comfort in mind, the facility will also be fully ADA compliant and climate-controlled with heating and air conditioning.

“The opening of the pickleball center underscores our commitment to promoting healthy living and community engagement,” said Corey Brown, the executive director of the Sussex County YMCA, in a statement. “As the popularity and demand for pickleball grows, we are excited to offer a dedicated space where people can come together, stay active and have fun. Whether you’re a seasoned player or just starting, our center is designed to cater to all levels and foster a sense of community.”

In addition to open play, the center will offer a variety of programs, including:

  • Lessons and clinics for all skill levels
  • League play
  • Competitive shoot-outs
  • Player evaluations and skill ratings

Players will also benefit from the convenience of the Pickleball Den app, allowing them to reserve court time up to 15 days in advance and stay connected with the local pickleball community. Membership options will be available for both YMCA members and the broader community.

“As part of our ongoing commitment to fostering community wellness and providing diverse recreational opportunities, we are thrilled to bring the first standalone indoor pickleball facility to the county and our YMCA association,” said Richard K. Gorab, President and CEO of the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges. “We look forward to seeing our community thrive through the joy and camaraderie that pickleball brings.”

The YMCA’s approach to launching its pickleball center highlights several key business lessons: responding to emerging trends, investing in quality experiences, and catering to a wide range of audiences. Leveraging technology for convenience, fostering community engagement, and creating recurring revenue through membership models are also crucial. Inclusivity and a strong brand voice further enhance customer loyalty and differentiate the business in a competitive market
