Since the COVID-19 pandemic, millions of Americans have been out of work. While job openings are surging, businesses are struggling to fill roles.
The YMCA of Bucks County with locations throughout Pennsylvania, is taking new approaches to try and fill their open positions in childcare, lifeguards and swim instructors, health and wellness coaches, member engagement representatives, personal trainers, sport instructors, and more.
One approach is through their “Good People Know Good People Referral Raffle.”
With the holiday season quickly approaching, the Bucks County Y is offering their staff and community great ways to earn holiday cash. According to the Y’s website, the Bucks County community is being asked to refer great people to fill the Y’s open job positions.
For every potential employee who is referred and is successfully hired, the person who referred them will be entered to win one of two $1,500 VISA gift cards now through November 15, 2021.
To enter community members must:
- Get the ‘OK’ from the potential staff member.
- Fill out the online form.
- The Y will contact the potential hire to get the interview process started.
- Once the new employee is successfully hired, the community member will be entered into the raffle.
Another approach the Bucks County Y is taking to fill open job positions is through free lifeguard certification training.
For those who are 16 years or older and who agree to work two shifts a week for at least six months, the Y will provide them with free lifeguard certifications.
To receive the free certification, applicants must take 7 hours on online, pre-class coursework; be able to swim 300 yards freestyle, continuously demonstrating breath control; tread water without hands for two minutes; and pass a 100-second timed event which includes starting in the water, swim 20 yards without goggles, surface dive seven to 10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object and return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to starting point with both hand held object and face above water, then exit the water using the ladder.
