JCC of Greater Boston
On July 1, Dr. Lily Rabinoff-Goldman joined the JCC of Greater Boston as the new president and CEO. Dr. Rabinoff-Goldman succeeds Mark Sokoll, who retired at the end of June after 33 years of service to the JCC.
Dr. Rabinoff-Goldman’s relationship with the JCC began with many childhood programs including being a lifeguard in her hometown of Albany, New York. She previously served as the assistant head of school at Gann Academy, one of Greater Boston’s premier independent Jewish high schools, where she worked for the past 12 years.
At Gann, Dr. Rabinoff-Goldman has been involved in all levels of diversity, equity and inclusion programming, strategic planning, donor stewardship, as well as supporting a range of stakeholder groups in sustained, deep work that is both aligned with inclusion and embedded in Jewish values and traditions.
Rye YMCA
The Rye YMCA named Sabrina Murphy as its new chief executive officer, effective July 5. Selected by the Y’s board of directors following a nationwide search, Murphy will succeed Gregg Howells who recently retired after serving the Y and the Sound Shore community for 26 years.
As CEO, Murphy will lead the Y into an exciting new era, overseeing a new second facility – The Studios at the Rye YMCA – a new strategic plan, and a growing child care program. She will also become the first woman CEO in the 108-year history of the Rye YMCA.
Previously, Murphy worked as a high school Language Arts teacher before finding her passion for youth work at the YMCA. Most of her 33-year career with the YMCA has been spent with YMCAs in midcoastal Maine. In 2000, she joined the staff of the Bath Area Family YMCA and in 2010, she became the organization’s CEO.
As CEO of the Bath Y, Murphy worked closely with the board and community to run a capital campaign and open a new YMCA branch debt free. She created partnerships with two area schools for the Y to provide a school-based public pre-K program, quadrupled the number of meals delivered through the Bath Y’s Veggie Van, maintained high staff retention, increased access and support through “New Americans” initiatives, grew endowments, and saw consistent growth in membership and programs. During the pandemic, she chaired the newly formed YMCA Alliance of Northern New England, which provided collective support to 27 YMCAs during a challenging time.
Harrisburg Area YMCA
The Harrisburg Area YMCA announced Richard A. Curl will retire after 25 years of service effective August 1, 2022. He will be succeeded by David Ozmore, an experienced YMCA leader who has served the YMCA in multiple senior roles throughout the country.
Curl has held the position of president and CEO of the Harrisburg Area YMCA since 1997 and has pioneered programs and services throughout the region. In addition to multiple capital improvement projects, he has grown the organization’s charitable efforts through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility initiatives over the course of his 25 years of service.
Throughout Ozmore’s 28-year career in the Y, he has held leadership positions in Ys of various sizes in small, urban and metropolitan areas. David started his career as director of operations/youth sports with the YMCA of the Triangle. Following this, he served as chief operating officer at a small community Y in Cleveland County, North Carolina. David also held the position of CEO for the YMCA of Greater New Orleans, and the YMCA of Greater High Point in North Carolina. Most recently, Ozmore has served as the chief executive officer of the Kentucky/West Virginia Regional Alliance of YMCAs.
YMCA of Greater San Antonio
Following a 38-year career, Sandy Morander has announced her retirement and resignation as the YMCA of Greater San Antonio’s president and CEO, effective December 2022.
Morander began her career at the Dallas YMCA, moved to the Northern York County YMCA in Biddeford, Maine, and transitioned to the Boston Y Association. Before moving to San Antonio, she served as the vice president of program development at the YMCA of Greater Boston. She joined the YMCA of Greater San Antonio team as president and CEO in 2011, bringing strength in programming and partnerships.
During her 11 years of dedicated service at the YMCA of Greater San Antonio, Sandy has been involved in many significant accomplishments, including opening several new facilities, expansion projects with community partners and leading the Y’s COVID-19 response efforts.
She and her husband Ron plan to start a new chapter with a family consulting business, The Morander Group, which will enable them to continue working in their passion fields while creating more time with family and friends.
