In the newest Expert Q&A, editor John Reecer has Brian McLaughlin, the senior vice president and COO of the YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South, on to chat about the Y’s creative strategies in making innovative spaces. McLaughlin provides insight on what his Y is doing with its Power40 studio, pickleball, spin classes and more. He also participates in a rapid-fire Q&A portion for you to get to know him better.

Expert Q&A with Brian McLaughlin Questions

1. At the Community Rec Summit, you mentioned some interesting ways your Y is creating innovative spaces for the community. Talk about some of your most successful innovative initiatives that maximize spaces like the Power40 Studio.

2. What about pickleball and spin studios? These are popular offerings in the industry, how is your Y maximizing these spaces?

3. How have members reacted to these offerings, and what future ideas may be in store?

4. What’s one piece of advice you’d give other Community Rec leaders when it comes to creative innovative spaces?

In addition to the topic questions, there is a rapid-fire Q&A portion for you to get to know McLaughlin better. He tries to get through as many questions as possible. Questions include:

  • What’s your favorite movie?
  • Which do you prefer, dogs or cats?
  • What do you like most about the community rec industry?
  • And so on…
