How KOMPAN Helped the Knox County YMCA Engage Families and Support Healthy Living

Adam Sampson, the CEO of the Knox County YMCA, shares how his Y partnered with KOMPAN to extend its healthy living mission beyond indoor facilities. The goal was to create an engaging campus near the playgrounds where members and the wider community could take part in outdoor activities. Sampson valued KOMPAN’s quality equipment and the opportunity to build a trusted partnership. The setup gives families more ways to spend time together in a safe environment. For example, parents can exercise while children play nearby, and the partnership complements the YMCA’s indoor services.

Members use both indoor and outdoor equipment, stay longer, and engage more, which Sampson believes can improve retention. The outdoor setup has also attracted new members. At soccer weekends and other large events, it introduces families to strength training and wellness. Sampson praised the equipment’s mechanisms and durability, saying he expects it to serve the community for years. He also highlighted a smooth purchasing process and positive partnership, and urged recreation professionals to imagine a varied campus that brings people together and supports wellness goals.
