Earlier this week, the YMCA of Southern Maine announced Janet Kafkas will be the organization’s next president and CEO.
In a statement from the Y on Facebook, the organization said with decades of YMCA leadership in local operations and at the national level, Kafkas knows what the Y means to a community.
Kafkas is a Gorham, Maine, native who learned to swim at the Y’s Portland branch, and she’s returning home to help the organization build a strong and enduring YMCA.
“I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as president and CEO at YMCA of Southern Maine,” said Kafkas in a statement on LinkedIn. “I’m excited to be back in the community that raised me and look forward to leading and serving here.”
