The Friedman JCC Day Camp is kicking off a $3 million “Building a Brighter Future” capital campaign.

For the past 90-plus years, the Friedman JCC Day Camp has been serving its region’s youth.  According to campaign co-chairs, Myer Messinger and Jane Messinger, “Our goal is to transform this beautiful 40-acre property overlooking Harvey’s Lake into an attractive, year-round center for social gatherings, sports activities and corporate events, thereby becoming a widely recognized and exciting regional destination.”

Gary Bernstein, the CEO of the Friedman Jewish Community Center added, “We are turning heads and making huge strides in our “Building a Brighter Future” $3M fundraising endeavor. We are actively seeking support from public funding programs as well as gifts and donations from individuals, corporations and foundations. Public funding already includes a recent grant from the Commonwealth of PA Redevelopment Capital Assistance Program, which will fund numerous infrastructure improvements.”

According to Doug Miller, the JCC camp director, the endeavor is to invigorate the summer day camp experience with new program enhancements and much needed property improvements.  “Offerings for year-round social, corporate and group events for expanded community use will become possible,” said Miler.

Charitable gifts and donations from individuals, corporations and foundations are now exponentially vital to the success of receiving a major Challenge Grant in 2022. “With the help of the community, we can realize our vision of creating vibrant, fulfilling community experiences for youth and adults alike,” said Myer Messinger.

Key renovation and expansion projects include:

  • New gymnasium with reception area, lockers, and bathrooms.
  • Upgrades to the existing Rosenberg Gymnasium.
  • Repairs to the Swimming Complex with added sunshade features.
  • Reconstruction of existing playing fields to accommodate league and tournament practice and play.
  • Reconfigured, secure entry drive and landscaping.
