Insight into the 2025 Community Rec Leadership Summit taking place at the stunning Loews Ventana Canyon Resort.

After two years of successfully empowering recreation leaders, the third-annual Community Rec Leadership Summit will return in 2025. This time, the top movers and shakers in the industry from across the U.S. will gather March 3 – 5 at the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson, Arizona.

With a commitment to educating community recreation professionals, the Leadership Summit will unite 60 of the top industry leaders alongside limited sponsors for three days of valuable networking opportunities, peer-to-peer learning experiences, and thought-provoking discussions while enjoying the cultural richness, warm weather and stunning beauty of Arizona canyons.

Returning from the 2024 Leadership Summit to moderate in 2025 is Jon Kidwell, a longtime supporter and friend of Community Rec Magazine. Kidwell is best known as the founder of Leadwell, where he is a leadership trainer and coach, writer, and podcast host.

For over 20 years, Kidwell has served in leadership roles as an employee or board member in private companies and nonprofits — large and small — ranging from a local focus to a global impact. Before launching a leadership development company, he served as vice president of innovation and operations for a large, multi-million-dollar global nonprofit in Houston, Texas, collaborating with companies such as Apple, Nike, Pfizer, MD Anderson Cancer Center, the University of Houston, and the YMCA of the USA. In addition, Kidwell teaches Masters of Organizational Leadership courses as an adjunct professor for the Townsend Institute at Concordia University Irvine.

“It was a joy and privilege to be there at the Summit in 2024 and to be a part of the wonderful energy and ideation that occurred,” said Kidwell. “I’m so glad to see these leaders and companies getting to come together like that. It’s such an honor to be re-invited. I can hardly wait for what is ahead.”

Kidwell will guide participants though four timely roundtable discussions covering the topics of:

  • Leadership/Team/Staff Building.
  • Creative Fundraising Ideas.
  • Enhancing Community Well-Being.
  • Construction/Renovation/Capital Projects.

Also, new to the Summit in 2025 will be the event’s first-ever panel discussion “Utilizing the Latest Technology to Enhance Rec Center Operations.” This will feature a handful of industry experts leading a discussion on all the new ways technology is improving the ways rec centers assist communities.
