In this facility tour, you’ll be able to see all the spaces of the A.M.Y Wellness Foundation YMCA of Mitchell County.
Bill Hoag, the executive director of the Y, conducts a comprehensive tour of the state-of-the-art facility. The YMCA features a community-focused membership area and a three-section wellness floor with free weights, cable systems, pin-based equipment, and functional workout spaces including TRX straps and rowers. The facility also includes an extensive cardio room and two pools. Future plans include a multi-purpose athletic area with basketball courts, pickleball, indoor soccer and an elevated walking track. The current child watch service allows parents to use facilities for up to two hours, making this YMCA a comprehensive community wellness center serving the region’s diverse fitness and recreational needs.
Tour Breakdown
- Lobby
- A welcoming environment with coffee bar and comfortable gathering spaces for members to enjoy. This area provides a sense of community.
- Wellness Floor
- Area 1: Free weights. This space is open concept to allow both free and body weight workouts. Additionally this area hosts four cable systems.
- Area 2: Functional workout area. This space is equipped with pin-based equipment, TRX straps, a forever rope and skiers—meant to provide full-functionality workouts.
- Area 3: Cardio. This includes eight treadmills, two rowers, foru ellipticles, three stair-steppers, three recumbent bikes, one traditional bike, and two NuStep equipment pieces.
- Aquatics
- Area 1: Leisure/kiddie pool. This includes three water features and two swirly slides.
- Area 2: Lap pool. This space is for the enjoyment of lap swimmers, but also has hopes to become a competition pool. It is equipped with six 25-meter lanes and six starting blocks. This area also houses a state-of-the-art Colorado timing system with hopes of encouraging the formation and competition of local swim teams.
- Athletics
- In the future, this multipurpose space will be completed with two basketball courts. Additionally, it will be able to host pickleball, indoor soccer and other community events. To complete this coliseum-style area, it will include an elevated walking track. The hope is for this to become a large gathering space for the citizens of Spruce Pine and other surrounding counties.
- Child Watch Area
- Also known as the Childhood Development Center, this area is a space for member’s children to learn and play while they enjoy our various facilities.
