The YMCA of Honolulu announced that Walter F. Thoemmes III has been selected as the Y’s next president and CEO, effective March 3, 2026.

According to a statement on social media from the YMCA, Thoemmes was selected following a comprehensive national search that drew more than 340 applicants. He brings 31 years of operational and strategic leadership experience at Kamehameha Schools, including over the past decade leading commercial real estate development and master community planning efforts across Hawaii. Thoemmes will succeed interim president and CEO Lisa Ontai, who has served in the role since July 2025.

The YMCA of Honolulu’s social media pages congratulated Thoemmes and said the organization looks forward to what’s ahead with him leading the way.
