After an extensive nationwide search, the YMCA of Muncie is proud to announce the appointment of Christopher Butler as its new president and CEO.

The CEO search, led by a search committee commissioned by the YMCA of Muncie Board of Directors and in partnership with YMCA of the USA, drew interest from highly qualified candidates across the country. Through multiple rounds of interviews, community engagement sessions and site visits, Butler emerged as the leader to guide the YMCA of Muncie into its next chapter.

“We are thrilled to welcome Chris Butler as our new President and CEO,” said Dr. Beth Trammell, the YMCA of Muncie board chair, in a statement on social media. “His proven track record of leadership, passion for community and dedication to the YMCA mission make him the right leader for this pivotal moment in our history. We are confident that Chris is ready to lead with a listening-first attitude ensuring the YMCA of Muncie will continue to serve, grow, and thrive with the community for generations to come.”

Butler’s Background

Butler brings with him more than 30 years of YMCA leadership experience, most recently serving with the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis where he held multiple executive roles including vice president of operations and executive director of multiple locations over the course of his career. Butler has successfully led large teams, guided capital projects, and developed strong partnerships with schools, healthcare systems, businesses and civic organizations.

At the heart of Butler’s leadership is a deep passion for building relationships and community. He’s known for connecting authentically with members, staff, volunteers and donors, and creating welcoming, mission-driven spaces where everyone feels they belong. His proven ability to strengthen operations, grow membership, and inspire philanthropy will be a vital asset as the Y continues advancing its mission in Muncie, Indiana, and Delaware County.

Butler earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Exercise & Health Science from Alma College in Michigan where he also played baseball and served as fraternity president. He and his wife, Tracy, have been married for 25 years and enjoy hiking, gardening, and cheering on the Detroit Tigers, Indiana Pacers and Michigan State Spartans. Together, they’re the proud parents of Maddie, an IU Bloomington graduate now pursuing her law degree at New York University, and Jack, a student at Indiana University studying finance and accounting.

As Butler steps into this new role, he’ll guide the YMCA of Muncie into its next chapter of growth and impact. With the recent opening of the new Muncie YMCA, the expansion of youth and family programs, and a growing partnership network, the Y is poised for a bright future under his leadership.
