The Anaheim Family YMCA announced the retirement of CEO Brent Finlay, following 40 years of dedicated service.
Over four decades, Finlay helped shape the Anaheim Family YMCA and other YMCA Associations across Ohio, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Illinois and Texas, creating environments where children are inspired, families are supported, and community truly comes to life.
“Throughout his tenure, Brent has been a guiding force behind the growth and impact of our programs, partnerships and stakeholder engagement,” said the Anaheim Family YMCA leadership and Board of Directors in a press release. “His leadership strengthened youth development initiatives, expanded access to healthy living opportunities and ensured that the YMCA remained a welcoming and inclusive space for all, regardless of background or circumstance. His ability to lead with both heart and purpose has impacted countless lives and built connections that will last for generations.”
Leadership at the YMCA said from a child’s first swim lesson to the confidence built through mentorship and the friendships formed at camp, Finlay has always recognized the true impact of the work they do. Also — above all — he’s consistently reminded the team that the YMCA is more than a building. It’s a community for people.
As Finlay begins his next chapter, the YMCA honors the legacy he leaves behind — a stronger Y, a more connected Anaheim community, and a culture grounded in kindness, respect and service.
“His work has left a lasting imprint not only on our organization, but also on the thousands of children, families, volunteers and staff members who have been part of the Anaheim YMCA family during his time here,” said Anaheim Family YMCA leadership. “In the weeks ahead, we’ll share opportunities for members, staff and friends to come together and celebrate Brent’s incredible 40 year journey and his nearly five years of leadership in Anaheim. We are also committed to ensuring a thoughtful and seamless transition and will keep our community informed as that process moves forward Please join us in congratulating Finlay on his well-earned retirement and in expressing our deepest appreciation for his decades of service, dedication and love for this community. We are forever grateful for the heart and spirit he has given to the Anaheim Family YMCA.”
