The Bath Area Family YMCA is excited to announce current COO Amy Vendt has been appointed as interim CEO and will step into the role beginning July 14.

Earlier this month, CEO Rob Gray announced to Y staff and members he will be departing his role in early July to become the next CEO of the Heart of the Valley YMCA in Huntsville, Alabama.

“I’m truly honored and humbled to be selected by the Board of Directors to serve as CEO,” said Vendt in a press release. “The Bath Y has experienced exciting, transformational growth in recent years, and I’m committed to building on that momentum. I look forward to working alongside our dedicated staff, volunteers and community partners to ensure our Y continues to provide the high-quality facilities, programs and services our members and neighbors count on every day.”

Vendt brings over 30 years of experience within the YMCA, building a career around empowering people, creating purpose-driven organizations, and fostering environments where individuals and teams can thrive. She has served as the COO at the Bath Area Family YMCA for two years. Her tenure includes notable achievements in philanthropy, leading transformative projects, and enhancing organizational culture through her leadership in diversity and inclusion. Prior to arriving in Maine, she served as the executive director of the Y in Central Maryland, managing a branch serving over 9,000 members.

“On behalf of the entire board, we wish Rob great success as he begins this next chapter in his professional journey,” said Peter Owen, the president of the Bath Area YMCA Board of Directors. “We’re excited to welcome Amy into this role leading our association. She brings a remarkable combination of vision, dedication, and heart to this new role, and we are confident the Y is in great hands.”

With this transition, the organization will begin a search for a new COO this summer.
