In this video tour, we visit the new YMCA at Tanglewood, a branch of the YMCA of Virginia’s Blue Ridge, located in Roanoke, Virginia.

At the end of 2024, the YMCA of Virginia’s Blue Ridge opened its unique YMCA at Tanglewood branch in the local Tanglewood Mall. Amanda Keffer, the operations director at the YMCA of Tanglewood, takes you on a tour of the state-of-the-art facility.

Highlights of the YMCA at Tanglewood branch include:

  • Wellness Center: Space includes cardio and strength equipment along with cable machines.
  • Free-weight area: Squat racks, deadlift platforms, dumbbells and medicine ball wall.
  • Studio Rooms: Three separate rooms meant for different group exercise classes, virtual classes, private workout sessions and events. Anybody can take any class they would like. Area also has a group exercise lobby outfitted with mats, yoga blocks, bands and other necessary workout equipment.
  • Stay and Play: Special room for children as young as six weeks old to visit and have fun while their parents get a workout in at the YMCA. Kids can stay up to two hours at a time.
  • Pickleball Pavilion: Eight dedicated pickleball courts that are separated from each other by fencing. The space is used for general pickleball play, workouts, tournaments and other related activities.
  • Functional Fitness Space: Dedicated part of the YMCA to all types specialized training.
  • Hot Yoga: The hot yoga space is used for different speciality classes.
  • Private Baths: The Y decided to have all individual restrooms and showers instead of specialized shared locker rooms. They have six individual restrooms and showers so everyone has their own space to get ready. They also have three individuals changing areas as well.
  • Coffee Corner: The Y also serves coffee to members in this area of the welcome desk where they can also easily sign up for classes. This part of the Y has plenty of tabletop space so members can bring their laptops to conduct their own private work.
