Our newest facility tour video features the Prairie Summit YMCA branch of the Cedar Rapids Metro YMCA, built with the College Community School District. The district helped build the center and has priority access to the indoor turf and competition pool, while the YMCA operates the facility. The turf offers space for activities such as kicking soccer balls and playing catch, with more YMCA programming planned.
The student-run Change of Pace Cafe, operated through the district’s Transition Program, sells coffee, hot chocolate, and baked goods. Fitness amenities include an 11-piece EGYM circuit, where bracelets enable personalized machine settings after orientation and an indoor walking track measuring seven laps per mile. Aquatics include a warm-water, zero-entry recreation pool accessible to wheelchair users and suited to lessons and water aerobics. The nine-lane competition pool has a bulkhead, seating for more than 400, and water kept at 77°F. The school uses it for swim teams; the YMCA offers lap swimming and lessons.
